The Hitachi group’s approach to its environmental responsibility is reflected in the way we make our audiovisual products. The new methods we have devised for both manufacturing and environmental protection assure that every step in a product’s lifecycle, from development and design to disposal, lessens our impact on the Earth through recycling and other means.

To lessen the effects of the materials we use on the environment, we have taken initiatives toward reducing and replacing the chemical content of our products. We also take a thorough approach to limiting the chemicals we use through our stringent management system, independent risk standards, and classification of chemicals to be “eliminated,” “reduced,” and “controlled.” These initiatives include:

This green mark is placed on products that contain amounts of chemical substances* below certain base levels as prescribed by the Japanese Industrial Standard for Marking the presence of the Specific Chemical Substances for electrical and electronic equipment (J-Moss).
We are also taking initiatives toward a resource-circulation system that includes easy-to-recycle product designs and solutions for effectively using and reusing resources.
By changing the shape of our product packaging, we achieved a 35%*1 reduction in volume from previous levels.
Usage of a single material has enabled us to recycle product cushioning as ecomaterial.
We are making efforts to reduce our use of plastic materials to make products more recyclable.
Our manuals and catalogs are made with recycled paper and printed with soybean oil-based inks.
We use recycled paints to help reduce physical deterioration. They can then be recycled as reusable plastic.
As part of our efforts to reduce emissions of CO2, one of the causes of global warming, we are promoting lower energy consumption and longer lives for our products.
For the P42-H01* (in our tests with the W42-P7000+AVC-H7000*). Annual consumption rates depend on JEITA standards. Measured using “standard” mode.
For the L32-H01* (in our tests with the W32-L7000+AVC-H7000*). Annual consumption rates depend on JEITA standards. Measured using “standard” mode.
This new setting reduces power consumption by optimizing screen brightness for the average home. Low or high settings can be selected to your preferences.
The set will automatically turn off if no operation is performed or no signal is received for a set period of time.
Hours of lifespan are estimates. Lifespan is measured as the time until a plasma panel fades to 40% of its brightness, or an LCD panel fades to half its brightness (according to our standards and measurements using Hitachi TV sets). These times may vary due to usage conditions (screen settings, content of images received) or usage environments. Does not include cases of burn-in or damage.
The plasma and LCD panels used for Wooo TVs are produced in our Japan factories. It goes without saying that the Hitachi production process also reflects our efforts to reduce our environmental impact. We have undertaken a variety of activities, including reducing waste and effectively utilizing water resources, as part of our thorough approach to environmental conservation activities.
We are working to reduce our CO2 emissions during the production process.
Our goal is zero emissions, and we are working to achieve this through programs including reusing and recycling, curtailing the amount of waste generated, and reducing the amount of matter we place in landfills.
We conduct stringent control of chemical substances based on our own management system, and are taking comprehensive measures to prevent emissions into the air and water.
To reduce our effect on public water supplies, we promote the usage of recycled water.
At the Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd. Miyazaki Plant, each and every employee takes pride in protecting the natural beauty of the surrounding region, not just as a facility strategy but also as part of our regional environmental communication activities.
